We’re at the halfway mark in Marketing Week, the biggest event on the SA marketing calendar.
Jason, Mal and Sarah caught up to record a wrap-up of the week so far (including ‘the incident’) and what we’re looking forward to.
Included in this podcast from the Via Media “studio” are our thoughts on:
- Our brand new microphone – the Dalek.
- The Via Media ‘Wheel of Karma’ – prizes include ADMA digital marketing certificate course and workshops but the most hotly contested prize was the ‘Man Hug’ from Tom Moon.
- Pete Williams (@rexster) from Deloitte on lean methodology, agile development, a bit of buzzword bingo but also the importance of customer feedback
- The breakfast panel session moderated by Mumbrella’s Tim Burrowes with James Calvert, Russ Mitchinson, Jason Hollamby, Christian Russell, David O’Loughlin and Sudeep Gohil which both Jason and Sarah agreed the only criticism of which was that it could have been much longer.
- Mal thought Gavin Heaton’s masterclass on ‘The Social Way’ was fantastic and talks about it being pitched at exactly the right level (went beyond the Social Media 101) and talking about social media in the context of a broader, continious digital strategy. An abridged version of the session is captured in Mal’s interview with Gavin we recorded earlier in the week.
- Michael Kordahi from Microsoft is voted the week’s most energetic and hilarious presenter who talked about the value of user experience. His example of Starbucks of the ultimate user experience is “violently” challenged by Jason which takes the discussion well away from Marketing Week.
- Sarah comments that Dr Roberta Veale’s session about ‘Wine as a Social Bond’ was interesting to see how they’ll be tracking brand loyalty, engagement and action of several online wine communities including the Adelaide Hills Region with their Wine Room.
- We then talk about the now Marketing Week legend incident at John Hartigan’s session before moving on to wrap things up with the conclusion that year’s Marketing Week has had the best line-up ever.
